Bio
Mike Welch is an editor, writing teacher, writing coach, as well an SAT and GRE tutor living in Albany, NY. He insists the Master's Degree in English Literature he received from SUNY Albany in 1996 has not hindered him in these pursuits.
He has been teaching, "Introduction to Memoir," a popular writing class, since 2015, starting at The Arts Center of the Capital Region in Troy, NY, and going on his own in 2020.
He has taught over 100 students and is pleased to see people continue to sign up for class, even during the second Golden Age of television.
Mike also provides developmental, line, and copy editing for completed manuscript drafts, fiction or nonfiction, memoir or otherwise, and can be hired to coach a writer from the idea stage to a finished manuscript.
Mike is one of those annoying people who scored at the top of the verbal section of the SAT and GRE and he would love to help you learn what he has learned about taking those tests.
Mike is an avid reader with a passion for classic literature and crime dramas. He balances his intellectual pursuits with well-spent time in the gym and hiking in the beauty of the Adirondacks.
Academic Tutoring and Test Prep
The verbal part of the SAT or GRE can put fear in even the stoutest of hearts. But you no longer need to fear these dreaded tests. Using the brilliant text "English words from the Greek And Latin Elements," Mike will give you the knowledge you need to decode English words using the simple Greek and Latin words they began their linguistic lives as. He will also teach you to use aids to memory, context, and to hold on to words by making them relevant to your own experience. Don't believe those who say you can't study for these tests. You can.
